Keep up with your servicing

We all dread the annual service – it’s costly, there’s no doubt about it. But, if you put money aside each month into a ‘servicing pot’ then when it rolls around it won’t seem too bad.

Keeping up with your annual car service can help you keep your car in tip-top condition. Without an annual service, many drivers could forget important checks such as oil, tyre tread and coolant. And forgetting these things can lead to costly and unnecessary appointments down the line.

Wind up windows on roads over 30mph

Diminishing wind resistance decreases fuel consumption. On roads where you’re travelling over 30mph, wind up the windows and bring in the sunroof and you’ll use less fuel.

Avoid potholes

Sometimes potholes are unavoidable – so don’t swerve dangerously to avoid them. But if you have the option of safely moving into another lane to avoid them then you should think about it.

It was reported by the Daily Express that potholes cost British motorists a massive £1.7 billion a year. Pothole repairs are expensive, so curb any future vehicle costs by trying your best to avoid potholes.

Keep your tyres topped up

You should be keeping your tyres topped up for safety reasons before costs. Did you know that under-inflated tyres could increase your risk of being in a car accident? Under-inflated tyres are harder to control. But aside from the safety risk, under-inflated tyres mean you’re filling up your car with fuel more regularly. An under-inflated tyre means more resistance, raising your fuel consumption.

Remove excess weight

Removing items from your car that you hardly ever use is a good way to lighten your car, which will, in turn, consume less fuel. Remove all those coats, boots and bags and you’ll be as light as a feather!
